TAYRONA SURF PROJECT

Even though the Colombian government, in many parts of the country, have managed to cut down and eliminate guerrillas, the Caribbean coast of Colombia is an area where paramilitary forces still have a huge influence on the community.

The military begins enlisting children as young as twelve years old, with the offer of a better life if they start selling drugs or assist in other criminal activities.

To prevent this from happening, there needs to be an option for the kids. An option that also will generate a future and a better life.

The main idea with Tayrona Surf School, is to be a part of that anti-force.

We want, with time, to create a surf camp where kids from the area Guachaca, Puerto Nuevo and Mendihuaca can learn the hospitality business and take free classes, this in exchange for a contribution for their school fees.

In this way, they can participate in a community and feel like they are a part of something important. They have the opportunity to get an education, and start their life as young adults with a completed high school degree and working skills.

With knowledge like that, the people in the community can come together and work for a positive development in this area - where, what we hope, paramilitary forces eventually won't have a chance to stand ground.
